Tuition Services
We believe that every young person can engage with education if it is approached in the right way.
Some young people do not yet have a school place, some young people have physical or medical needs which prevent them from attending school, and for some young people, the classroom is not always a place where they can learn.
Their needs and anxieties may lead to behaviours that disturb their own learning and the learning of others. For some, their impact on the school has eventually meant that they are permanently excluded and others are on the cusp of exclusion. For these young people, tuition may be a solution.
Our Tuition Services
- In-school tuition for young people who struggle to stay in class due to sensory sensitivities, mental health issues, emotional dysregulation or very individual learning needs.
- Tuition in a base outside the school premises, but within the local area. We offer part-time transition tuition services, which pupils from local schools can attend for a limited time to re-engage with learning and build confidence and trust. They are also supported to re-integrate into school or transition to a new placement. Our bases are staffed by a teacher, a therapist and a learning mentor, supporting young people in their emotional and academic development and readying them for the move back into full-time schooling.
- Home tuition for those who have been excluded, or who have self-excluded due to anxiety or mental health issues.
- Tuition in a base within school (sometimes called a nurture group or learning zone) where a small group of young people with diverse needs can work in a personalised way for part of the day – this avoids exclusion and enhances their progress.
One to One Tuition
When it comes to one-to-one tuition, we have the skills and experience to match the best-suited tutor to the young person. Some young people follow academic courses leading to SATs, entry level or foundation qualifications, or GCSEs. Others, especially those working well below age-expected levels, may engage better with a project-based approach, following an interest and building skills in literacy, maths and science.
We compile a risk assessment for every young person, acknowledging the risks of not learning, and co-produce an Individual Plan that is reviewed at least termly. We also write reports for annual reviews and attend when requested. All our tutors complete a weekly report so that you can track the pupil’s progress in terms of both academic achievement and wellbeing.
