Why work for ASEND?
ASEND is the only dedicated SEND recruitment agency founded and led by specialist SEND teachers and consultants. We live and breathe SEND.
We are passionate about the children and young people we support, and so we want to make sure that all our teachers, therapists, psychologists, support staff and others are well trained and well supported.
We also provide regular training for both our consultants and our clients, including Team Teach, autism awareness, emotional regulation, safeguarding, managing challenging behaviour and ADHD awareness.
Unlike any other agency, you can call the team at any time to get advice and support in your role – we know schools and we know SEND.
How soon can I get a request for services fulfilled?
We can usually meet requests within 2 weeks, but of course, with more notice, we can offer you greater choice.

SEND managers are qualified specialist teachers with a wealth of experience supporting young people with additional needs in homes, schools, colleges, hospitals and just about every other setting you can think of! How qualified and experienced are ASEND’s SEND Managers?
SEND managers are all long serving qualified teachers with MA or MSc qualifications in their areas of expertise. The overwhelming majority are former senior school leaders and SENCOS, holding the NASENCO qualification. Some have additional highly specialist qualifications – for example, in PBS (Positive Behaviour Support), Dyslexia assessment, or in Autism Assessment and diagnosis. Several have experienced setting up schools and provisions from scratch to meet the needs in a particular location, or have been Headteachers in specialist or mainstream schools or colleges. Most have experienced inspecting or auditing schools. All strive to ensure that the very best evidence-based practice in SEND is shared and that all the children and young people supported by ASEND can thrive.
What approach do SEND managers advocate for PDA and anxiety?
ASEND follows best practice for PDA and anxiety, which we believe is a low arousal, therapeutic and confidence-building approach that celebrates the individual learner and builds on their skills, loves and interests. All the support we provide is rooted in the latest research and best practices.
What types of special educational needs and disabilities can SEND managers support?
The truth is, there’s almost no need that is beyond our support—the SEND team is a highly experienced group of professionals skilled in working with a wide range of needs. We support learners with Autism, ADHD, MLD, SLD, PMLD, Complex Needs, PDA, ODD, School Refusal, Anxiety and Attachment Disorders, SLCN, SpLD (including Dyslexia, Dyscalculia, Dysgraphia, and Dyspraxia), Multi-Sensory Impairments, Physical Disabilities and many medical needs. If you don’t see a specific need listed—just ask! We’re here to help.
How will SEND managers support early career teachers and new tutors?
Our SEND managers have extensive experience supporting NQTs, ECTs, and trainee teachers in school settings. Most have designed and taught teacher training courses in schools, giving them deep insight into how best to support educators. Just as we tailor our approach for children and young people, support for ECTs and new tutors is personalised. SEND managers are readily available to provide guidance on planning, assessment, and curriculum development. In cases where the home learning environment or family circumstances are more complex, educators receive more structured and hands-on support from their SEND manager. Due to the unique circumstances of many of our learners, working with ASEND is a truly distinctive and rewarding experience.
Can SEND managers support important transitions, such as preparing children to return to school after a difficult time?
Much of our work centres on supporting transitions, helping children and young people move smoothly from one educational setting to another. We see ourselves as a strong bridge during this critical time. Recognising that transitions can cause significant anxiety for many learners, we take a holistic approach—considering pupil voice, family input, and our own observations to create a well-informed, tailored plan. Collaboration is at the heart of what we do. We acknowledge past experiences and any challenges the learner has faced, working to create a more positive, supportive transition that builds confidence and fosters successful reintegration.
Our tutors may begin working with a young person at home, building a strong relationship before supporting them through transition visits. In some cases, tuition gradually shifts from home to school, with the tutor slowly reducing their presence in the classroom. In others, the tutor follows the school’s timetable and curriculum to ensure continuity on the days the learner attends school. The nature of this support is entirely tailored to the learner’s needs and the client’s requests—our approach is always flexible!
