A 6-year-old young person in East London (E7) needs a skilled, patient tutor who can support their development and help them reconnect with learning and their interests, as well as build the confidence to thrive in the world around them. About this young person and your role

  • Location: East London (E7) – in person
  • Hours: 25 hours per week (within school term time and school hours)
  • Young person: 6 years old, Key Stage 1, working below age-related expectations
  • Their needs: verbal Autism (ASD/ASC), Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA), Social Emotional and Mental Health needs (SEMH), Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD)
  • What you’ll do: Work 1-to-1, delivering child-centred support focused on engagement, wellbeing, and building a positive relationship. This role is focused on holistic development rather than formal curriculum delivery. If you’re a tutor who works in a child-centred, relationship-first way, this is for you. You’ll travel to the placement, deliver support, and complete a brief session report to record your hours.

What we’re looking for in a SEND Tutor

Essential:

  • Tutoring or mentoring experience: Demonstrable experience working with children or young people in an educational, therapeutic, or pastoral setting
  • Child-centred approach: You see the young person, not just the curriculum
  • Safeguarding: Knowledge of safeguarding processes and a commitment to promoting the health, safety, and wellbeing of children and young people at all times
  • Compliance: Enhanced DBS (we can help you obtain this) and 2 professional references
  • Location: You must be based in the UK with the right to work in the UK. We are unable to provide visa sponsorship

Desirable:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS / QTLS) or equivalent
  • Experience working with SEND, SEMH, MLD, SLD, and/or PMLD learners
  • Experience supporting complex special educational, sensory, and medical needs including sensory processing disorder, anxiety, and autism (ASD/ASC)
  • Familiarity with trauma-informed approaches to teaching and mentoring
