Interim SENCo — Walthamstow

About the Role

We are looking to appoint a SENCo to join the team, for 3 days a week, at a Primary School in Walthamstow, Greater London. The school would like an interim SENCo to start as soon as possible in the new year. This role is for the first half-term of the Spring Term, until the full-time SENCo returns from maternity leave. The SENCo will be leading the day-to-day management of the SEND Register and EHCPs both in the mainstream and SRP for ASD. This will require:

  • Carrying out observations of children in classrooms.
  • Making referrals to external agencies.
  • Applying for EHCPs, running Annual Reviews.
  • Meeting with the SALT and EP to arrange access for children.
  • Working with and advising support staff on the interventions of children within classes.
  • Working as part of the SLT.
  • The systems in place are incredibly organised and the incoming SENCo will be able to access and continue the work easily.
  • Collaborate with school leadership in the strategic development of SEND and inclusion policies, ensuring alignment with the SEN Code of Practice and legislative requirements.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of support for pupils with SEND, implementing systems to identify needs and track progress.
  • Foster communication and partnerships with staff, parents, external agencies, and other schools to enhance educational provision for SEND students.
  • Lead the Inclusion Team, providing guidance and support for teaching staff in implementing effective teaching practices and strategies for diverse learners.
  • Ensure pupils with SEND can express their views, ensuring their inclusion in decision-making processes.
  • Develop initiatives that promote high standards in learning, behaviour, and overall well-being of pupils with additional needs.
  • Provide exemplary teaching and serve as a role model for staff, contributing to professional development and the continuous improvement of teaching and learning practices.

Key Requirements

  • Have the confidence, skills and abilities to manage SEND provision at the school.
  • Be able to inspire, challenge and motivate all children to achieve.
  • Have a thorough understanding of inclusion legislation.
  • Desire to have a positive and lasting impact on the schools and young people you support.
  • Are passionate about supporting young people with SEN and have strong experience in this area.
  • Hold an NASENCo qualification or have been working as a SENCo since 2008.
