Make a Lasting Difference in SEND
At ASEND, we’re passionate about connecting children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) to the specialist professionals who can transform their lives.
We’re looking for an experienced, relationship-focused Consultant Lead to grow and nurture our network of specialist SEND consultants while building strong partnerships with Local Authorities and other commissioners.
This is a unique opportunity for someone with current or recent SEND experience – perhaps as an Assistant SENDCo, SENDCo or in another specialist SEND role – who is ready to move into a commercially focused position where they can use their expertise to influence, build relationships and shape a growing national consultancy service.
Rather than simply filling vacancies, you’ll become the trusted relationship owner for our consultant network, ensuring exceptional specialists remain engaged with ASEND while helping commissioners access the expertise they need.
What You’ll Be Doing
Growing Our Consultant Network
- Building relationships with Speech & Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Educational Psychologists, specialist teachers, Music Therapists and other SEND professionals.
- Networking through conferences, CPD events, professional bodies and LinkedIn to attract outstanding consultants.
- Creating a strong pipeline of specialist practitioners through referrals and professional recommendations.
- Identifying gaps in our network and proactively targeting recruitment activity where demand is growing.
Building Long-Term Consultant Relationships
- Becoming the primary relationship manager for our portfolio of consultants.
- Keeping consultants engaged between assignments through regular, meaningful contact.
- Understanding each consultant’s skills, preferences and availability to match them with the right opportunities.
- Building a genuine sense of community within the ASEND consultant network.
- Re-engaging inactive consultants and recognising outstanding work to strengthen long-term relationships.
Managing Consultant Placements
- Matching specialists to referrals based on expertise, therapeutic approach and the needs of each child or young person – not simply availability.
- Coordinating assignment details, rates, start dates and expectations for both consultants and clients.
- Acting as the main point of contact throughout assignments, resolving issues quickly and ensuring positive outcomes.
- Planning ahead for assignment extensions, continuations and future opportunities.
- Maintaining an accurate overview of consultant availability and placement activity.
Developing Client & Commissioner Relationships
- Building trusted relationships with Local Authority commissioners, SEN teams, schools and other purchasers of specialist provision.
- Promoting ASEND’s consultancy services and the breadth of expertise within our consultant network.
- Understanding future commissioning needs and helping shape network growth accordingly.
- Supporting enquiry conversion by responding promptly and professionally to new opportunities.
Quality, Compliance & Collaboration
- Ensuring consultants remain compliant with Safer Recruitment requirements, including DBS, professional registration and safeguarding checks.
- Monitoring ongoing compliance and maintaining accurate records in Airtable and other systems.
- Gathering feedback from clients and families to continually improve our service.
- Working closely with the wider Recruitment Team to deliver an outstanding experience for both consultants and commissioners.
About our ideal Consultant Lead

- Relationship Builder
You enjoy developing trusted professional relationships and are confident engaging with consultants, school leaders and Local Authority officers.
- Commercially Minded
You’re proactive, naturally curious and comfortable networking, identifying opportunities and promoting a high-quality service.
- Organised & Person-Centred
You can confidently manage multiple relationships and assignments simultaneously while maintaining exceptional attention to detail and delivering outstanding service.
- Excellent Communicator
You communicate with warmth, credibility and professionalism, whether speaking with specialist practitioners, commissioners or colleagues.
Lead Consultant role benefits:
- £38,000 – £40,000 per annum.
