About this young person and your role

• Location: Southampton (SO16) – in person
• Hours: 15 hours per week (within school term time and school hours)
• Young person: 14 years old, Key Stage 4, but working below age-expected level (Functional Skills)
• Their needs: verbal Autism (ASD/ASC), Auditory impairment, Anxiety, Social Emotional and Communication needs
• What you’ll do: Work 1-to-1, delivering child-centred support focused on engagement, wellbeing, and building a positive relationship. This role is focused on holistic development rather than formal curriculum delivery. If you’re a tutor who works in a child-centred, relationship-first way, this is for you. You’ll travel to the placement, deliver support, and complete a brief session report to record your hours.

Note: This role is focused on engagement, wellbeing, and building a positive relationship, as well as formal academic delivery of English, Maths and combined Sciences to Functional Skills level. If you’re a tutor who works in a child-centred, holistic way, this is for you.

What we’re looking for in a SEND Tutor

Essential:

• Tutoring or mentoring experience: Demonstrable experience working with children or young people in an educational, therapeutic, or pastoral setting
• Child-centred approach: You see the young person, not just the curriculum
• Safeguarding: Knowledge of safeguarding processes and a commitment to promoting the health, safety, and wellbeing of children and young people at all times
• Compliance: Enhanced DBS (we can help you obtain this) and 2 professional references
• Location: You must be based in the UK with the right to work in the UK. We are unable to provide visa sponsorship

Desirable:

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS / QTLS) or equivalent
• Experience working with SEND, SEMH, MLD, SLD, and/or PMLD learners
• Experience supporting complex special educational, sensory, and medical needs including sensory processing disorder, anxiety, and autism (ASD/ASC)
• Familiarity with trauma-informed approaches to teaching and mentoring
